Kick-off Event for the Belgrade International Summer School: “Communicating Just Green Transitions – Navigating the Path to a Sustainable Future”

The University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Geography proudly hosts the second standalone teaching event, “Communicating Just Green Transitions – Navigating the Path to a Sustainable Future”. This summer school aims to highlight the importance of sustainability and effective communication to the next generation.

On April 16th, 2024, the second Summer School of the GreenFORCE project officially began. Students from Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Polis University (Albania), and the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography (Serbia) gathered alongside their professors and lecturers to embark on this educational journey.

Two keynote speakers provided compelling and motivational lectures to set the tone for the summer school:

  • Mr. Carlos Tapia delivered a comprehensive lecture on “The Just Green Transition.” He covered topics such as scoping the Just Green Transition (JGT), myths and misconceptions about climate change, climate policies and JGT, and exploring the EU’s JGT policy framework.
  • Mr. Vojislav Zanetic emphasized the importance of communication in his presentation “Public (&) Communication.” He engaged students in discussions about the crucial role of effective communication.

The summer school boasts an engaging curriculum designed to provide a transformative learning experience. Key components include:

  • Integrating Interdisciplinary Perspectives;
  • Leveraging Technology: Utilizing modern technology to enhance learning and communication;
  • Hands-on Experiences: Encouraging practical engagement to reinforce theoretical knowledge;
  • Fostering Collaboration: Promoting teamwork and cooperation among students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Empowering Advocacy: Equipping students with the skills to advocate for sustainable practices.
  • Showcasing Success Stories: Highlighting real-world examples to inspire and motivate students.

The summer school in Belgrade is organized by the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography (UB-GEF) in Serbia. It is supported by the Interuniversity Department of Urban and Regional Studies and Planning, the Interdepartmental Responsible Risk Resilience Centre (R3C) of Politecnico di Torino and is set in the framework of the School of Planning and Design.

Additional support is provided by Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development in Albania, the Center for Economic Analysis Association (CEA) in North Macedonia and Nordregio, a pan-Nordic research organization based in Sweden.

Through effective communication and hands-on engagement, this summer school ensures a rich and diverse learning experience and aims to shape environmentally conscious and empowered young leaders who will contribute to a sustainable future.
